Chapter 1

Just before Thanksgiving, the new intern strutted in, claiming herself to be the CEO's daughter.

The second she saw me, she laid into me, accusing me of trying to seduce her dad.

Everyone in the office instantly jumped on her bandwagon.

They sucked up to her while throwing shade at me, calling me names and giving me a hard time.

She was loving it, feeling all high and mighty. To show off, she booked a fancy dinner at a luxury hotel for the whole team, running up a huge tab.

But when she confidently whipped out her card to pay, her face dropped. The card was completely maxed out.

As she started to panic, I calmly stepped up and waved my card at the waiter.

With her face turning pale, I gave her a small, satisfied smile.

"Yeah, about that... My mom said we're not bankrolling randoms.

"So I froze all the cards you and my dad were using. Oops!"

...

Right before Thanksgiving, a new intern joined our department, and oddly enough, she looked a bit like me.

My colleague, Sophia, gave me a playful nudge.

"Hey, Victoria, are you sure you two aren't sisters or something?"

It was just a joke, and I was about to laugh it off when Emily Green, another coworker, snapped.

"Look at yourself, Victoria, how do you have the nerve to think you could be a sibling to the boss's daughter? Get real."

Emily had always had it out for me, though I never knew why.

My mom had pulled some strings to get me this internship at our family's company, but she made it very clear I needed to keep a low profile.

So, instead of firing back, I just held Sophia back and joined the office gossip.

"Did you guys notice who walked her in? It was Mr. Brooks's personal assistant."

"Oh, and the car keys she was holding! That's a Maserati!"

"Didn't Mr. Miller mention that Mr. Brooks just bought his daughter a brand-new Maserati last month?"

Everyone quickly put two and two together and decided that Nicole Brooks had to be the boss's daughter.

I, on the other hand, was left in shock.

There was a Maserati downstairs with a license plate identical to mine, the one my dad had bought for me.

But this morning, he told me he was sending it in for maintenance.

He also warned me not to drive such a flashy car to work, saying it would only make me a target.

But now, somehow both the car and the identity of the boss's daughter were being claimed by Nicole.

Feeling all high and mighty, Nicole waved her hand and ordered coffee for over fifty people in the office as a welcome gift.

I kept quiet and put aside my confusion.

But when the coffee finally arrived, mine was missing.

Everyone turned to stare at me. Sophia asked, "Victoria, did you forget to order?"

"No, I definitely ordered."

I had even double-checked to make sure it was my usual flavor.

So why was I the only one left out?

That was when Nicole spoke up.

"I deleted yours."

I stood there, stunned. Before I could even ask why, she continued, totally unbothered.

"This morning, I saw you in the elevator with my dad. You were standing way too close, practically draped all over him."

She let out a sarcastic laugh.

"Seriously, Victoria, have you no shame? My dad's old enough to father you, and you're still throwing yourself at him?"

Her words made my blood boil.

I forgot all about the missing coffee and shot up from my seat.

"What the hell are you even talking about? Who's throwing themselves at your dad? And, by the way, who is your dad?"

Nicole's smirk got even nastier.

"You take money from my dad's company, try to get cozy with him, and now you're pretending you don't even know who he is?

"Wow, you really know how to play the innocent card, don't you?"
