Chapter 3

Judith was clearly shaken by the sudden turn of events and hesitated.

She glanced over at me, her eyes filled with worry as if seeking my opinion.

But just as she did, another sharp pain gripped my abdomen, nearly bringing me to my knees. I clutched my belly, unable to utter a word.

The two midwives rushed over, grabbing me by the arms, one on each side, and dragging me toward the delivery room while yelling back at Judith.

"Don't worry. We've delivered over a hundred babies, Your Royal Highness'll be just fine!"

The pain was excruciating, but I summoned what little strength I had left and shouted to Judith.

"Judith, come with me and Daisy! Don't leave the room without my order!"

Judith and Daisy Reed were both Lancelot's former handmaidens. After our wedding, they were sent to serve me.

With them by my side, Donna and Caroline would at least hesitate before trying anything.

I had to hold on until Lancelot arrived!

They laid me on the bed, and the pain intensified, sweat streaming down my face.

Seeing that I was indeed about to give birth, Caroline and Donna exchanged a quick glance and took the opportunity to act. Caroline clutched her belly and moaned out.

"Mom! My belly hurts... I think I'm about to give birth too!"

She feigned pain, mimicking my agony, and Donna rushed to her, immediately ordering the servants to move Caroline to the next room.

"Don't take her back to her chambers. The midwives are already here. Both of them can give birth right here!"

While they busied themselves, sending people to tend to Caroline, I grabbed Judith and Daisy's hands, trembling as I whispered urgently.

"Whatever happens, you must stay by my side! You have to watch my child's birth, understood?"

Despite their initial panic, Judith and Daisy, having served Lancelot for years, quickly regained their composure.

"Don't worry, Your Royal Highness. We will protect you and the royal heir with our lives!"

I gritted my teeth as another wave of pain hit me, making even breathing unbearable.

Once Caroline was settled, the midwives rushed back to check on me, immediately shooing Judith and Daisy to the side.

Judith and Daisy exchanged a glance. Being used to all the scheming and deceit, they naturally knew full well that something wasn't right. Though they stepped aside, their eyes remained fixed on the midwife.

Seeing their vigilance, I felt a small sense of relief.

Time passed, though I couldn't tell how long it took. The pain came more frequently.

At first, I could still count the minutes, but soon, my mind grew foggy, and I lost track.

Finally, one of the midwives came forward, her hands on my belly, exclaiming loudly.

"The baby's in the wrong position! We need to get the physician in here immediately!"

In my past life, this had been how they had fooled me. Fearing I might still be conscious, they had claimed my baby was in the wrong position and brought in the physician to inject me.

A few moments later, I lost consciousness. When I awoke, the entire room was in mourning, with servants kneeling and weeping, claiming I had given birth to a stillborn child.

But I remembered clearly feeling the baby move inside me before the birth. I thought, "How could it have been stillborn?"

The physician said the baby had stayed in the womb too long and had died shortly after birth.

By the time Lancelot rushed in, I had passed out again.

He wept at my bedside, this usually stoic man, brought to tears for the first time, his voice hoarse with grief.

The very next day, rumors spread like wildfire. "The Crown Princess is cursed! She gave birth to a stillborn. This is going to bring calamity to the nation." My baby, who had died so quickly after being born, became the subject of gossip for the entire kingdom.

Now, just like before, Donna had the doctor waiting outside, ready to act the moment the midwife gave the signal.

Gathering what little strength I had, I shouted, "No physician is allowed in here! I forbid any injections!"

Donna tried to persuade me. "Estella, you're in danger! We need the physician to check on you, or it could endanger the baby!"

I scoffed internally.

I thought, "If he comes in, that's when both my child and I will surely die!"

Ignoring my protests, Donna forced her way in with the doctor. I glared at them with bloodshot eyes, pointed at them, and yelled.

"I am the Crown Princess! I command you to leave this room now!"

Judith and Daisy, seeing my determination, stood firm in front of the bed, blocking the doctor's approach.

But Donna, realizing I was barely holding on, grew more aggressive. Her eyes were wild with determination. She snarled through gritted teeth.

"Guards! These two maids are conspiring against Her Royal Highness. Drag them out and beat them to death!"

"How dare you!" I struggled to sit up, but another wave of pain crashed over me, my vision fading to black. I clutched my belly, writhing in agony.

Judith and Daisy were forcibly dragged out.

I wanted to stop them, but the pain was so intense that I couldn't even form words.

Their screams of pain soon echoed through the halls. I gripped the edge of the bed, watching helplessly as the doctor and Donna, with that twisted smugness in her eyes, smirking, moved closer.
